Andrew Benson, Pharm.D.
Dr. Andrew Benson is a Doctor of Pharmacy and the founder of PharmSurance — though his connection to Medicare goes back even further. While still in pharmacy school, he volunteered his time and trained through Florida's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), helping people understand their Medicare options nearly a decade before PharmSurance existed. As an independent pharmacy owner in Arkansas, Dr. Benson went on to spend years working directly with patients — many of them navigating the complexities of Medicare, prescription drug coverage, and rising healthcare costs.
What he saw repeatedly was a meaningful gap between what patients expected from their Medicare experience and what they actually received — not because of a lack of effort, but because of a lack of clinical context. Pharmacy professionals, he believed, were uniquely positioned to bridge that gap. With their deep understanding of medications, formularies, insurance systems, and patient relationships, they could provide a level of guidance that would genuinely improve the experience patients had navigating their coverage.
That insight became the foundation of PharmSurance. Dr. Benson founded the company to build a network of pharmacy professionals — licensed insurance advisors who bring a healthcare-first perspective to every client conversation, and who are equipped to address the specific needs that most Medicare beneficiaries encounter but rarely have answered.
Today, PharmSurance is a growing organization operating across multiple states, with a mission to expand that network nationwide — ensuring that every Medicare-eligible individual, regardless of where they live or how they qualify for Medicare, has access to the kind of informed, honest, and patient-centered guidance they deserve.
This includes people turning 65 and Medicare-eligible individuals under 65 with a qualifying disability — every PharmSurance advisor is equipped to help both groups navigate their options.
